We kept costs low by trying to grow as many plants as possible from seed. We used the winter sowing method for many of the seeds.

Seed sources

We were able to order all of the new seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery. We had some seeds from existing plants in our yards that we were able to save and plant them.

Plant sources

We sourced most of the plants from the Friends School Plant Sale. The plant sale has a selection of native plants. They are quite small and relatively cheap. Because they are so small they need a little extra care to get them established. We also sourced some of the plants from other nearby nurseries including: Garden by the Woods and BluPrairie Plant Nursery. But even bigger nurseries now generally have native-plant selections available, especially in spring.
